The Sumner High School records are those of the historically African American high school in Kansas City, Kansas. The records reflect both the school and the school's alumni.
"Toward Education Per Aspera"
Brought to Kansas in his early childhood, Clarence Birch became a teacher in Kansas rural schools, Haskell Institute, and the Lawrence public schools. He served as superintendent of the Lawrence Public School System from 1931 to 1939. He later wrote "Toward Education Per Aspera, A Manuscript Autobiography of a Kansas Educator" in 1966.
